An Introduction: Education Department, Williamnagar Govt. College, came into existence in the year 2000, as one of the core components of erstwhile Williamnagar College which was established by the citizens of the Williamnagar town. It started just one teacher to teach the subject. The only full-time teacher Shri Om Prakash Khadka along with Smt. Senty C Marak, a part-time teacher who joined a few years later served the college till it was taken over by the government on 18th February 2009.

Initially the department offered the subject at both the Higher Secondary (+2) and Under Graduate level catering to the learning needs of thousands of students. However, after the introduction of Semester System in 2015 and De-linking of Higher Secondary (+2) section, the department limited itself with Undergraduate classes only.

The Department of Education at present is offering B. A. Honours course in Education along with the optional elective subjects to be chosen from Political Science, Garo, and History. The entire course comprises of six semesters spread over 3 years.

The Department has always been focussing on providing in-depth understanding of the processes and components of education in each stage of course and development of its students. The tremendous influence of Philosophical, Psychological and Social aspects of life on education and vis-à-vis requires utmost attention of learners and therefore are taught. As teachers, elders, parents, social reformers and leaders each student requires the knowledge of education. Being one of the most chosen subjects there has always been rush of students in the Department of Education.

The Department runs its course in designated and common classrooms as per schedule and routine. It has full strength of qualified, dedicated and competent faculty members. Group discussion, Question-Answer method, ‘A talk on the given topic’, exchanging ideas & thought and other innovative methods of teaching along with a few limited ICT facilities are applied in the department to improve the teaching - learning experience of teachers and students. Besides internal test and assignments and classroom activities, students are encouraged to join Students’ seminar, workshops, Sports activities, Exposure Trip, and Study tour that are conducted in the college as a whole for the holistic developments of students.
