DEPARTMENT PROFILE
Department of Economics, Williamnagar Government College, Williamnagar
The Department of Economics came into being with the inception of the College in the year 2000. Since then, it has been offering a three-year degree honors course under the annual system till 2014 and the semester system from 2015. Initially, the Department started off with just one faculty- Shri. Elias Uddin Ahmed, however, at present; there are five (5) full time teachers in the department. The faculty has the determination and commitment to achieve excellence in all spheres of academic activities.
Vision:
- To develop an understanding on economic theories and practices that promote critical thinking, skills and enhance decision making abilities, which help students become productive and informed citizens.
- To develop knowledge on economic concepts, theories and models that are relevant in future applications in higher education and research.
- To develop an understanding on key issues of the economy, policy design and bottlenecks in implementation.
Mission:
- To enable the students to have knowledge on critical thinking which can be utilized in applied economics?
- To educate students on important economic theories and concepts which are relevant for future career endeavours.
- To encourage students in identifying the current challenges and problems in our economy.
- To ensure that students are educated on policies, thereby enabling them to become informed citizens.
